Capital Books Pvt. Ltd. was established in 1989 as a wholesale distribution house. It was felt that expensive imported higher academic books had a much larger and useful market but a greater professional approach was required to make these books accessible to the end user.

 

Branches were set up in Kolkota and Bangalore with experienced sales team who co-ordinated the efforts through local vendors, over 200 of them spread over the country. India was soon emerging as a strong market for higher academic reference material. Special deals were made with American and European publishers and prices of many such expensive publications were negotiated to enable a larger segment of our academic and research institutions to acquire them.

In 2001 it was strongly felt that Indian publishing had come of age in specific areas of interest and a well defined research infra-structure with a vast pool of scientists existed to be tapped for producing quality literature in topics such as Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Water Resources Management, Environmental Sciences and Pollution Studies etc.

The endeavour was to go about meticulously scouting for talents and today in less than 3 years some of the country's more serious academics and research scientists have been involved with Capital Publishing Company as authors, editors and article contributors.
